The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has announced its decision to embark on strike on Wednesday , December 12.
The decision was taken at the end of the meeting, which lasted for several hours at the Kaduna Polytechnic.
The planned industrial action, followed the failure of the Federal Government to implement all the agreements it entered with the union since 2016.
The union executives said that they have no choice than to embark on an indefinite strike.
*But, after a peaceful deliberation by the Students' Union Government executives with the Polytechnic academic affairs unit official on a way to augment the academic performance of the students, the Union executives through the Vice President Academics, Abubakar Mabub has agreed to use the period of the strike for tutorials for all students across all levels and departments.*
*The Office of the Vice President Academics, will organize a befitting tutorials for all students in order not to waste the time of strike on unnecessary activities, as we hope that the strike will be suspended in few time.*
*To authenticate the seriousness of the management, the Rector still insisted that nothing will change our academic calendar for this semester, because of general election coming up in February 16, 2019. As the management will not want any students to be in school during the elections.*
*Therefore, the Students Union executives want to urge every students to endeavor to be in school during the strike to attend tutorials to cover up for this semester.*
*We pray for a hitch free academic semester, and we hope that the strike will end soon if eventually embark on by the ASUP.*
